About MinutesofThunder
MinutesofThunder is a plain-spoken guide to hobby-grade RC cars. It covers what you actually need to know to buy a good first car, keep it running, and go faster: brushless motors and ESCs, LiPo batteries and charging safety, gearing, suspension tuning, radios, tires, and crawler setup.
There are three kinds of pages here: long guides that explain how a part or a system works, buyer's guides that compare specific cars and parts, and calculators that do the arithmetic for you (battery runtime, gear ratio, motor comparison).
How it's written
The goal is the answer you'd get from an experienced hobbyist at a track, not a press release. That means:
- Parts are explained by what they do and how they fail, not by their marketing name.
- Buyer's guides name the trade-offs, including the ones that make a cheap car a bad buy.
- Numbers are shown, so you can check the math yourself.
- Safety gets its own space, especially for LiPo charging, where a shortcut can burn down a garage.
How the site makes money
Some outbound links to RC shops are affiliate links, which means the site may earn a commission if you buy through them. That never changes what gets recommended, and nothing here is a paid placement. There's no display advertising on the site. The full detail is on our disclosure page.
The site is also affiliated with Findmmm, an iPhone and iPad app for finding photos and videos in your own library. It's mentioned only in articles where finding photos genuinely helps, such as keeping track of build, wiring, or setup photos. Any page that mentions it carries a short disclosure at the top.
Who writes it
This site is written and maintained by one person who has been in and out of the RC hobby for years and got back into it properly recently. It's deliberately published without a personal byline: the writing should stand on its own, and this isn't a personality site.
Corrections are welcome and taken seriously. If something here is wrong, out of date, or a part has been discontinued, tell us and it gets fixed. RC hardware turns over fast, and a guide that recommends a discontinued ESC isn't much use.
